Empowering Communities: 🌍 Join or Start a WHIS Chapter in Your Community
At WHIS (World Health Innovation Summit) and GSPA (Global Social Prescribing Alliance), we believe the best ideas for health and wellbeing come from the community itself. That’s why we’re excited to launch Volunteer Chapters — a global network of community-led initiatives where students, young leaders, and local members take the lead in shaping health and wellbeing in their neighborhoods.
Today, we are proud to have over **120 Champions and **Volunteers working across our networks, helping to create new local movements that empower communities worldwide to manage their own health and wellbeing around the world. Together, they are driving grassroots innovation, strengthening social connections, and advancing preventative, person-centred approaches to health.
Why Volunteer Chapters?
Health and wellbeing are not one-size-fits-all. Every community has unique needs, challenges, and strengths. WHIS and GSPA chapters empower local teams to:
- Co-create projects that respond to their community’s needs
- Build connections between students, youth, adults, and elders
- Share stories and knowledge to inspire others
- Lead initiatives that improve mental, physical, and social wellbeing By giving communities ownership, we ensure that projects are inclusive, meaningful, and sustainable.

- Community members passionate about social prescribing and health innovation
- Elders who want to share their wisdom and support local projects We believe everyone has something to contribute, and together, we can create a network of support, knowledge, and action across the globe.
**How Chapters Work **
Each chapter is locally led and includes roles like:
- Chair & Co-Chair – guiding strategy while supporting the community to co-create initiatives
- Recruitment & Operations Lead – coordinating volunteers and project workflows
- Communications Director & Officers – sharing your story and spreading awareness
- Head of Community Engagement & Community Officers – building grassroots connections and partnerships Chapters receive an annual licence from WHIS/GSPA based on activity, impact, and alignment with our values of honesty, integrity, inclusivity, and respect.
Getting Started
Starting a chapter is simple:
- Form a team with your community and assign roles
- Set up basic communication channels like WhatsApp and a Gmail account
- Launch your social media accounts for local engagement
- Submit your chapter details via our Chapter Submission Form Once submitted, your chapter will be officially recognised, promoted globally, and connected to the WHIS & GSPA community network.
