CLIMATE CHANGE - WHAT IS THE GLOBAL STOCKTAKE?
The United Nations has released a “global stocktake” taking a look at the state of our planet 🌏 🌎 🌍
We are sleepwalking into a world we will increasingly not recognise and one that will not be suitable for our children’s children.
The 17 key findings are within the report and below is my summary:
- We are nowhere near on track to keep warming below 2 degrees or even 3 degrees, and we must rapidly accelerate renewable energy deployment and implement change by 2030 - the impact on our health and wellbeing will be profound if we do not.
- Everyone from Governments, corporations, financial institutions, investors must do much more to scale up and deliver climate action.
- Climate action is good for health, employment, education, citizens and the planet - huge opportunities to create new and meaningful jobs while improving our health and wellbeing - HEALTHY PLANET = HEALTHY PEOPLE
- It’s now cheaper to move to 100% renewables
- If we don’t act soon we will have climate refugees because climate change threatens all countries, communities and people 🌍 🌎 🌏
- There will be impacts that will be irreversible as temperatures increase beyond 1.5 °C (a guaranteed outcome) and we need to plan accordingly now
- Existing cleaner technologies need to be rapidly deployed, together with accelerated innovation, development and transfer of new technologies, to support the needs of developing countries.
- We need new ways of creating opportunities to unlock trillions of dollars and shift investments to climate action across scales (Place Based Impact Investm[ent The Good Economy etc)
From a healthcare perspective we are going to see huge pressure on our services as a result of climate change. The healthcare system is already struggling with staffing and capacity challenges and new models of healthcare that support climate action and preventing disease across population health will be needed World Health Innovation Summit CIC World Health Service Global Social Prescribing Alliance
