Prescribing a Better Future

Prescribing a Better Future: The Global Movement for Wellbeing

Since its formal launch in 2021, the Global Social Prescribing Alliance (GSPA) has grown from a vision of person-centred healthcare into a dynamic, worldwide movement. Our mission has always been clear: to unify policymakers, clinicians, researchers, and community advocates to create a sustainable health model—one that improves wellbeing while generating meaningful jobs at scale.

As we look at the progress made over the last few years, it is clear that we are not just talking about systemic change; we are driving it. Here is a look at the success of our global journey so far.

A Network Without Borders

What began as a collaborative effort to embed personalised care into health systems has blossomed into a trusted global network. Today, the GSPA is actively mobilizing social prescribing in over 40 countries, supported by more than 50 Global Champions across every major region. 📅** Upcoming Global Calendar**:** 17th July 2026**: The GSPA International Virtual Summit – Convening leaders from 77 countries to align global health strategies.** 24th July 2026**: GSPA Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting – Executing our operational workforce and technology roadmaps.

The Economic Case for Prevention

Perhaps our most significant achievement has been shifting the narrative around healthcare funding. By proving that “Health is Wealth,” we have successfully framed wellbeing as an economic imperative.

Evidence now confirms that prevention is one of the smartest investments a society can make. Our data highlights a significant return on investment, with up to £4 returned to the economy for every £1 invested in social prescribing. This economic evidence is now empowering governments and investors to shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, community-led models of care.

Scalable Innovations and Initiatives

The strength of the GSPA lies in our ability to turn global strategies into local action. We have successfully launched frameworks that empower community health:

  • Training and Workforce Development: We have established a comprehensive Training & Development Roadmap for Link Workers—the human bridge between individuals and communities—ensuring that the workforce is equipped to deliver ethical, evidence-based support.
  • Regional Hubs: From supporting the launch of the National Social Prescribing Group (NSPG) in Norway to scaling the “Compassionate Communities” model in Latin America, our framework is proving its adaptability across diverse health systems.
  • Industry Integration: We are bridging the gap between healthcare and industry, identifying new opportunities in healthtech, digital innovation, and the arts, proving that every sector has a role to play in public health.

Latest Academic Contribution & Evidence Base

Our commitment to embedding solid data and academic rigor into the movement continues to hit major milestones. We are proud to share our latest peer-reviewed research exploring the operational mechanics of this model:

Looking Toward 2030

As we look toward our 2030 Global Goal, our focus remains on building the global architecture standards, evidence bases, and diverse partnerships that will allow social prescribing to fulfill its extraordinary potential.

The transformation of global health is no longer a distant goal; it is happening now. By continuing to prescribe a life not just medicine we are building a world where our homes, streets, and communities are the true foundations of public health.

Together, we are not just dreaming of a social revolution in health; we are living it.
